Brief Details About Harvard University
Private Ivy League research institution Harvard University is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is the oldest school of higher study in the United States and one of the most prominent in the entire world. Originally known as Harvard College and named after its first donor, the Puritan preacher John Harvard, it was founded in 1636.
The founding of Harvard was approved by the Massachusetts colonial legislature because they “dreaded to leave an illiterate ministry to the churches when our present ministers shall lie in the dust.” Although Harvard College was never formally affiliated with any denomination, in its early years it primarily trained Congregational clergy.
During the 18th century, its curriculum and student population gradually became more secular, and by the 19th century, it had come to be seen as the primary cultural institution among the Boston elite.
Harvard University became a founding member of the Association of American Universities in 1900. But following the American Civil War, President Charles William Eliot’s long administration (1869–1909) transformed the college and its affiliated professional schools into a cutting-edge research university.
Arts and Sciences offer to study in a broad range of academic disciplines for undergraduates and graduates, while the other faculties offer only graduate degrees, mostly professional.

The Scholarship Value:
A $70,000 stipend will be given to postdoctoral Harvard University Academy Scholars Program participants each year. If chosen before receiving a Ph.D., the Students will be paid a $35,000 stipend per year until they are. Additional funds for conference and research travel, research assistants, and health insurance are provided in addition to this stipend. While not required, some teaching is acceptable.
Eligibility for Harvard University Academy Scholars Program
Only recent Ph.D. (or similar professional school degree) recipients and doctoral candidates in the social sciences or law are eligible to compete in the Harvard University Academy Scholars Program.
Before seeking to become Academy Scholars, those still pursuing a Ph.D. should have finished their regular training and be well along with the writing of their theses.
If you have already completed a Ph.D. program, the date of your Ph.D. completion must be three years or less from the application deadline of October 1. You must have earned your Ph.D. or an equivalent degree by September 30, 2018, in order to be eligible to apply by the deadline of October 1, 2022.

The completed application will include:
- A cover letter that briefly states the applicant’s academic field, country or region of specialization, and proposed research topic.
- Curriculum vitae (CV) or resumé; including a list of publications
- Research proposal (2500 word maximum); including intellectual objectives and planned methodological and disciplinary work.
- A copy of your Ph.D. program transcript
- Three letters of recommendation (uploaded through the online application).
Application Deadline: October 1st, 2022 is the deadline for submissions for the scholarship.
